Markesha Tisby is an independent educational consultant and coach passionate about all things literacy. Her career began in the classroom, where she taught kindergarten and first grade, and she has since broadened her expertise as a Response to Intervention Specialist and a Master Reading Teacher. Before founding Tisby Educational Consulting, Markesha served as a Literacy Specialist and K-4 ELAR & Social Studies Teaching and Learning Coach. Markesha also serves as the President-Elect of the Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts (TCTELA). She is dedicated to mentoring new teachers and collaborating with educators to enhance literacy practices, aiming to boost student engagement and achievement.
Markesha holds a Master of Education in Reading from Texas A&M Commerce, a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at Tyler, and an Associate’s degree from Trinity Valley Community College. She was recently inducted into TVCC’s Hall of Distinguished Alumni. Markesha’s speaking and professional learning sessions center on emergent literacy, authentic reading and writing, and the power of picture books.
