Dr. Lois Marshall Barker is an expert in secondary reading and writing instruction, learning with technology, curriculum design, and multicultural education. With over 14 years in education, Lois has served as a classroom teacher, Language Learner coordinator, instructional coach, professional development and curriculum specialist. She holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Literary Studies and an Ed. D in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Learning with Emerging Technologies. Most of her work promotes exploring the interactions of literacy, social justice, and multiculturalism. She is also an advocate for mobilizing teacher learning and virtual coaching. Lois has presented workshops at various conferences focused on language discrimination, authentic writing, virtual coaching, and the use of picture books in the secondary classroom. Lois currently serves as the chair of TCTELA’S Teacher Development Section where she creates a space for teacher leaders and district coaches to stretch and challenge their thinking around coaching, pedagogy, and ELA curriculum.
