Kara Gavin began her career as a bilingual special educator and continued working across grade levels in both special and general education classrooms. She has experience in curriculum development, research, and evaluation with a focus on participatory and equitable practices. She earned her doctoral degree in Curriculum and Teaching with a concentration in Literacy from Teachers College, Columbia University. Kara specializes in designing spaces where learners, both young people and adults, can explore, reflect, and grow as individuals and as a community.
Currently, Kara collaborates with educators and school and district leaders through professional learning, coaching, and technical assistance focused on strengthening instructional practices, promoting equity, and supporting student success. Outside of work, Kara enjoys spending time with her husband and two children and hiking with her chocolate labs.
