Christie Nold (she/her) lives and teaches on unceded Abenaki land in Vermont. She is a public high school social studies teacher in South Burlington, just five miles from her childhood home. Prior to teaching social studies at the high school level, she taught English language arts, social studies, and humanities at her district’s middle school. In addition to public school teaching, Christie has also worked as an educator and school programs coordinator at Shelburne Farms, a Vermont farm-based nonprofit dedicated to Education for Sustainability, and taught English and civic education at the village school in Nedryhailiv, Ukraine. Today, Christie is dedicated to deepening her practice through Universal Design for Learning as well as supporting students in developing critical literacy skills through both media and disciplinary literacy. In addition to her work in the classroom, Christie has co-facilitated Students Organizing Against Racism, served as a core member and later board member for the Education Justice Coalition of Vermont, as well as worked as an advisory council member for both the Nellie Mae Education Foundation and National Geographic. Her educational background includes a B.S. in Secondary Education with concentrations in both History and English from the University of Maine and an M.A. in History with a focus on Holocaust and Genocide Studies from the University of Vermont.
