Rosa Alvarez has been an elementary educator in beautiful, sunny southern Arizona for the past 13 years. Before that, she spent four years as an instructional aide. Rosa taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade in the general education realm and just wrapped up her 9th year as a Kinder–5th grade English Language Development (ELD) teacher and program coordinator.

Rosa’s 17 years in education have been dedicated to the community and in the same school she attended as a child. She says, “that aspect is so unique to my career, and it fuels my passions for educational advocacy, leadership, and continuous improvement, making the work worth it every single day. I believe in asset-based pedagogy and run our learning space with the mindset that students, families, colleagues, and I all bring value to the table. I see learning as the result of relationships, goals, and standards coming together through moments, projects, and intentional assessments.”

Rosa holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Master of Arts in Language, Reading, and Culture, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Arizona. She is certified as a Principal and holds a K–8 Reading Specialist endorsement. Most recently, she declared candidacy for National Board Certification in the area of English as a New Language, Specialist: Early to Middle Childhood.
